SEVEN  DAY  CHALLENGE

Community Comics and Megazeen joined forces to run the Seven Day Creation Challenge.  Between September 15 and October 5, 2002, creators had to pick a seven day period to start and complete a 16-page digest-sized mini comic.  It also had to be a solo project- that meant no help from outside.  Writers had to draw.  Artists had to write.  And they needed to do so fast.  19 up-and-coming Christian artists rose to the occasion, in most cases even amazing themselves.  The results are below.

THE LAST WITNESS, BOOK #0     A DAY IN THE LIFE

Despite having many years of drawing experience, this is my first attempt at sequential art, except for the one page in Timepiece.  In fact, this is also my first attempt at scripting.  I used characters already established in my novels, but the plot, dialogue and art are all original to this contest.  Even the skies and mountains were rendered with Terragen.  Email Jerry at jerry@jerrywelch.com or visit him at www.jerrywelch.com

THY NAME

The hardest obstacle I had to face was the time and space problem. I can't write short stories to save my life, and it was hard enough to think up a plot that can be done in 7 days on 14 pages.  For the essence of speed, I figured a maximum of 3 characters (I even wanted to just make 1 guy with an extremely long monolog) and something that doesn't really require much backgrounds (which I suck SO bad at). But I also wanted something that is touching and serious... and so Thy Name came out...

GOD VS dEvil

It took me a while to get going on my comic, because I had a lot of aborted ideas. I wanted to do something that didn't have a real linear story- a comic that made sense from beginning to end, yet one that you could read in any order or look at it out of context and pretty much get the point. My finished piece, GOD vs. dEvil, is achieves this, I think, and conveys it's message without being preachy....

MOUSEFLIES

Well, here it is.  My very first comic book.  And as it happens with very first comic books, there are some errors...  Most of which were brought to my attention by my fabulously merciless friends AFTER the comic was already posted. ^_^  But oh well!  Still gotta work out them bugs.

WHY I FAILED THE 7 DAY CREATION CHALLENGE

On Friday September the 13th in the year of our Lord 2002, I set out to participate in the 7-Day Creation Challenge... Although I am not an artist per se I tried in the interest of good sportsmanship and Her Majesty's Rules of Honor to do the jolly right thing and take a wailing jab at this project with the gusto  Horatio Jhermes showed at the Amateur Ring Jamboree of 1936 (the fatal results of which I need not mention here).  Alas my efforts proved in vain...

GOD'S SUPERHERO

I am the creator of Kingdom Comics. My story, God's Superhero, kinda created and drew itself. I look at it now, and I'm amazed that a story like that was in me. An overall enjoyable experience!

THE GIRL WHO COULD NOT BE TOUCHED

Ok. I did need 4 extra hours to finish my story. I also have to admit I have two advantages: 1) I've had practice. I did the 24 Hour Comic Challenge with friends two years ago, and we did one this past summer, too, although it turned out to be "The 10 hour Comic Script Challenge". 2) I had time. Since I now freelance, I was able to set aside 4 full days and then 3 full days in between assignments to work only on this. Praying about the project before starting really helped. I worked through a couple of scripts to get to this one. but I will be able to use the others later, so this turned out to be a real blessing to take part in.
